SRH vs MI Highlights IPL 2024, SRH won by 31 Runs. The eighth match of Indian Super League was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians. It was played in Rajiv Gandhi Stadium Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad was captained by World cup winning captain Pat Cummins and Hardik Pandya was the captain of Mumbai Indians.
SRH vs MI Highlights
The match started with a coin toss. The pitch was looking great to bat on. Mumbai Indians won the toss and they elected to bowl first on this surface. Now, Sunrisers Hyderabad were going to bat first in their home game.
SRH Batting
Mayank Agarwal and Travis Head came to bat. Their approach looked aggressive. Travis Head took an aggressive start while Agarwal was trying to adjust himself on the wicket. Ultimately he could not settle and got out in fifth over. Next man was Abhishek Sharma. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma showed no pity on the bowlers of Mumbai Indians and were trying to hit every ball out of the park. Travis Head got out on 62 runs by playing only 24 balls. He played 9 fours and 3 sixes.
Next man was Aiden Markram. He tried to built partnership with Abhishek Sharma. As Abhishek Sharma was playing quite aggressively , he got caught out. He played a brilliant knock of 63(23). He scored 3 4s and 7 6s. Next man was Henrich Klassen. He did not allow the momentum to be shifted towards Mumbai Indians and played with same intent as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. He scored 80 runs in 34 balls with the help of 4 fours and 6 sixes. SRH posted a mammoth target of 278.
MI Bowling
Hardik Pandya, Coetzee and Piyush Chawla took one wicket each but it wasn’t enough. U19 World Cup sensation Maphaka was the most expensive bowler. He bowled with an economy of 16.50. Except Jasprit Bumrah all other bowlers had the economy of above 10. Now huge target of 278 was set for MI batters.
MI Batting
278 runs target was never going to be an easy task but Mumbai Indian batsmen tried their best to chase it. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan both took an explosive start but could not play longer and got out on 26 and 34 runs respectively . Naman Dhir and Tilak Verma showed a great character. Mumbai Indians were totally in game when these young boys were batting. Naman Dhir scored 30 runs in 14 balls. He got out in 11th over when Mumbai Indians reached 150.
Next man was captain Hardik Pandya. He should have continued with same intent but this was the time when Sunrisers Hyderabad took over the game. Hardik scored 24 runs in 20 balls with 120 SR in a 278 runs chase. Tilak Verma scored 64(34). After Hardik and Tilak , Tim David and Sherfane Rutherford tried their best to chase down the total but all in vain. Mumbai Indians tried their best but could only score 246 runs. Despite of the great effort, they were 31 runs short.
SRH Bowling
Although SRH bowlers were also expensive but they were taking wickets at regular intervals. They were not allowing MI batters to maintain a partnership except between Naman Dhir and Tilak Verma. But Pat Cummins was the bowler who made a difference. He took 2 wickets at an economy of 8.75 in a game of 500+ runs.
SRH vs MI Summary
SRH scored 277 runs beating the record of RCB’s 263 runs in IPL 2013. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Henrich Klassen scored 62,63 and 80 runs respectively. But MI also scored decent 246 runs. Tilak Verma scored 64 runs and Pat Cummins took 2 wickets. Abhishek Sharma was awarded the player of the match for his 63 runs.
