The grand final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) was played between the table toppers Multan Sultans who won 7 out of their 10 matches and after qualifying for the playoffs they trashed Peshawar Zalmi in the national stadium Karachi to book their slot in the final of the league. On the other hand, Islamabad United barely qualified for the playoffs then Islamabad United won against Quetta Gladiators in Eliminator and then after winning Eliminator they destructed Peshawar Zalmi in the Qualifier 2. Now the both winning team competed against each other in the finals of PSL 9 in the National stadium Karachi whose sitting capacity is 34000.

Multan sultans won the toss and choose to bat first. The conditions of National stadium Karachi were favoring both bowlers and batsmen. Especially the spinners were gaining a lot of turn.  Turn was recorded 4.1 degree group match between PZ VS KK. While the average turn in the league is 1.9 degree. Multan Sultans openers Yasir Khan and Muhammad Rizwan came to bat.  Yasir khan was caught out cheaply by Tymal Mills in the second over.

Muhammad Rizwan changed his batting order and David Willey came to bat and got out after some balls. Now man in form Muhammad Usman came to bat and scored beautiful 57(40).. Muhammad Rizwan scored 26 and Iftikhar ahmad scored 32 runs.  Multan Sultans put up a decent total of 159 on the board.

Imad Wasim and Shadab khan were the stars of the night. Imad Wasim took 5 wickets at the economy of 6.25 while Shadab khan took 3 wickets at the economy of 8. Other bowlers including Naseem Shah and Tymal Mills bowled beautifully but could not get a single wicket. Imad Wasim league games performance were not upto his standard but in the playoffs he was the frontline soldier for his team.

Islamabad United batting

Now 160 was the target for the Islamabad United batters. It was going to be an interested chase for the ISLU batters. It was pretty much achievable and defendable for the both teams. Martin Guptill and Colin Munro came to bat . Martin Guptill scored an amazing fifty of 32 balls and set an amazing tone for his team. While Azam Khan scored 30 of 22 balls and Naseem Shah and Imad Wasim scored 17 and 19 respectively of 9 and 17 balls. Imad Wasim maintained a partnership and scored according to the conditions and played 2 beautiful fours.

While Naseem shah scored 2 fours and hit 1 humongous six.  Target was chases on the last ball when emerging player Hunain shah scored a four on the last ball and won the tournament for his team.

As the spinners were getting wonderful turn in the match. Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmad took 2 wickets each at the economy of under 6. While David Willey, Muhammad Ali and Usama Mir took 1 wickets. Multan Sultans bowlers bowled great but all in vain . In the end , Islamabad United had the last laugh and they were declared as the champions of the PSL for third time. While Multan Sultan lost their 3rd consecutive PSL Final/

Multan Sultans scored 159 runs in the first innings. Usman khan scored 57 runs. Imad Wasim took 5 Wickets. Islamabad United chased down the target on the last ball . Martin Guptill scored 50 runs. Khushdil shah and Iftikhar ahmad took 2 wickets each. Imad Wasim was declared the man of the match for his 5 wickets and important 19 runs. While Shadab Khan was declared the man of the tournament for his 300+ runs and 10+ wickets. Islamabad United won their third PSL title after 2016 and 2018 PSL.
