Babar Azam reappointed as PCT Captain. A lot of news about Babar Azam reappointment as captain was spreading since many days. Finally the news has been confirmed today when Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mr. Mohsin Naqvi met Babar Azam. Babar has been announced the captain of Pakistan Cricket Team in white ball formats ( ODIs and T20i ).
Why Babar Azam was sacked earlier?
It still remains a question that Babar resigned or was he sacked? He lead Pakistan in all formats. He published a note on his social media handles about resigning from captaincy from all formats after group stage knockout from ICC Cricket World Cup that happened in India last year. Babar represented Pakistan as captain in T20i WC 2021, T20i WC 2022, Asia cup 2022, Asia cup 2023, ODI WC 2023, WTC 2021, WTC 2023 and many bilateral series.
Why Shaheen is sacked?
After resign of Babar as captain. Shaheen Shah Afridi was announced as Pakistan cricket team captain in T20i format and Shan Masood was announced as Test cricket captain. Shaheen Shah Afridi is his short tenure represented Pakistan as captain in one series vs New Zealand. Pakistan lost the series by 4-1. After this series, he played PSL. He was the captain of Lahore Qalanders who won PSL twice in his captaincy. But in this PSL Lahore Qalanders could not even qualify for Playoffs.

Test matches
Babar Azam played 18 Test matches as captain in which he was able to win 8 matches . He lost 6 matches and 4 matches had no result. He has a winning ratio of 44.44% . Pakistan cricket team was whitewashed in his captaincy by England at home but he also a won a 2 match series against Sri Lanka.
ODI matches
He has a decent record in ODIs as a captain. He played 21 matches out of which he got success in 13 matches but he faced the music in 7 matches. 1 match had no result. He was appointed as ODI captain in May 2020.
T20i matches
He has a wonderful record in T20i cricket . He lead Pakistan in 66 matches and in 40 matches he got success and lost 21 matches as well. The winning ratio is stunning 65.57%. He is in the top 5 players with most matches as captain in this format. He was appointed captain in this format in 2019 against Australia. Despite a decent record, he was not able to win any trophy.
Babar Azam captaincy in ICC and ACC tournaments
- He first represented Pakistan in an ICC tournament in World Cup 2021 where Pakistan won against India for the first time ever in world cups. PCT managed to qualify for the semi finals after being undefeated in group stage.
- World test championship 2019-2021 also happened but Pakistan was not able to qualify for the finals.
- In Asia cup 2022, Pakistan defeated India in super 4 stage and qualified for the finals against Sri Lanka but they couldn’t lift up the trophy.
- In ICC t20 world cup, Pakistan managed to qualify for the finals after defeats against India and Zimbabwe in group stage but Pakistan could not win the final again
- In WTC 2021-2023 Pakistan showed poor performance and could not play the finals again.
- Pakistan qualified for only super 4 stage in Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan lost against both India and Sri Lanka in Super 4 stage
- In ICC ODI World cup, Pakistan was knocked out in group stage after winning only 4 matches out of 9.
